An on-site server-based solution which is capable of accepting DICOM images from up to 12 2D Mammography X-ray gantries or six 3D Mammography X-ray gantries. The resulting output can be sent to multiple DICOM-compatible devices such as technologist workstations, mammography workstations, mammography reporting systems and PACS.
For larger organizations, Volpara can be deployed in a “virtual” environment. This type of installation enables the IT department to further utilize their existing infrastructure and will allow for hardware standardization and reduced service costs. Typically, images are sent to a central location where the Volpara software is hosted on hardware that is provided and maintained by the IT department.
An on-site Volpara server can send patient results, with PHI removed, to be hosted in secure data centers in locations based geographically close to the facility through our partnership with Microsoft. Security is guaranteed by use of anonymization, encryption and secure transmission links.
Researchers can use Volpara Data Manager software with a Window PC to analyze tens of thousands of raw images. Data is tracked by patient ID, study date, mammography manufacturer and age. Results for breast volume, fibroglandular tissue volume, volumetric breast density per image, and mean glandular dose are available. This option is ideal for research facilities that require a high-throughput, objective analysis of breast density over time for temporal comparison.
Technical Information for IT Departments and Systems Engineers

Stand-Alone or Virtual Volpara Server System Requirements
- Microsoft Windows 7 Professional (64 bit) or Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 (64 bit)
- Recommend at least Intel Core i5 physical or virtual processor
- 4 GB RAM
- 80 GB HDD
- 10/100 Mbit NIC
- Internet access
- Local administrative access
Volpara Data Manager System Requirements
- Intel i5 2.0 GHz CPU, or better
- Microsoft Windows 64-bit operating system (such as Windows 7, Windows 8.1 or Windows 10)
- 4 GB RAM (or more if tomosynthesis image sets are to be processed)
- Microsoft .NET 4.5 or later installed
- Local administrative access
Windows Update/Firewall Rules
- We recommend Windows Update is disabled on Windows 7 and Server 2008 installs Windows 7. Note: MS Update KB2507938 must not be installed
- Firewall rules must permit inbound and outbound DICOM traffic to the modality and PACS
For Volpara Solutions staff to install and configure the Volpara Server system for you we require remote access to your server. This can be your preferred existing method such as Cisco VPN, Citrix, remote desktop, etc or we can use Zoho Assist to access the server’s desktop.
Upon receipt of your purchase order we will work through an Installation Checklist with you to capture information such as IP addresses, DICOM AE titles and your PACS information to build a site diagram of your facility. This information will be stored to prepare for the installation and used to provide technical support in future.
